A Broken Fairy Tale for Broken People
Over the centuries fairy tales have played a defining role in our species. Across cultures and generations, stories of heroes facing insurmountable odds have helped children understand concepts that might otherwise be too complex or overwhelming for their minds to fully comprehend. The comforting nature of such stories has a calming effect on the storyteller as well as the sleeping child.
Magnus Coffinkey tries to fix a bell on top of a tower. Success will make his wish come true – whereas the price of failure is a permanently broken heart and a lifetime of guilt, pain and sorrow.
The Storyteller
Rebecca Camilleri is a Maltese actress, theatre-maker, and drama educator who has worked in theatre, commercial, and film throughout the years. She has trained with multiple theatre practitioners both locally and abroad, and, in 2018, went on to graduate from ArtsEd, London, with a Masters in Acting.
Some of her credits include: Kattrin in Teatru Malta’s Ma Kurraġġ, Twelfth Night, A Comedy of Errors, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Romeo & Juliet with WhatsTheirNames Theatre, Sette (VII) with the New Victorians, the Romeo & Juliet/Macbeth school’s tour with the Guildford Shakespeare Company, Sunrise with FM Theatre, The Taming of the Shrew for the MADC, Il-Giddieb Għomru Twil for Studio18, and others.
She recently wrote and directed Jimmy and the Apocalypse for Studio 18 and Esplora’s Summer Science Festival – Esperimenta Tikka Xjenza, directed the meet the author event Striped Pyjamas for Żigużajg and the Malta Book Festival, and has recently been announced as festival director for Teatru Malta’s annual Trikki Trakki Youth Theatre Festival.
Magnus Coffinkey
Joseph Zammit is a B.A.(Hons) graduate in History and works as a professional tenor and actor who has performed in over ninety different national and international productions in the span of twelve years.
Joseph has been a vocal student of Dr Andriana Yordanova for several years and his opera roles include Pluto in Orpheus in the Underworld and Hamid in Aħna Refuġjati. In musicals Joseph has played Che in Evita, Jamie in The Last Five Years (Masquerade), the Maestro in HUSH (TMYT) and Manwel Dimech in Il-Qfil u l-Ħelsien skont Manwel Dimech.
Joseph’s most notable theatre roles include; Yvan in Art (WhatsTheirNames Theatre), various roles in When You Hear My Voice (with Dr Bruce Wall, London Shakespeare Workout), and the solo show Jamboy (The Shrinking Violets). He is an original member of WhatsTheirNames Theatre and a constant in their Shakespeare in the Pub series, where his roles have included Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, Angelo in Measure for Measure, and Nurse in Romeo and Juliet. Screen credits include the role of Kalċidon in L-Għarusa and Roger Sr in the feature film Is-Sriep Reġgħu Saru Velenużi.
Joseph also stars in the More or Less children's theatre series, having performed in numerous schools locally as well as in the UK and US. Additionally Joseph has played leading roles in eleven Christmas pantomimes, seven for Masquerade and four for MADC, while also starring in the first two editions of Panto in the Dark.
Director
Philip Leone-Ganado is a director, actor and producer. He trained at the London Academy of Music in Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) from where he graduated with an MA in Directing in 2020. He is the founder of WhatsTheirNames Theatre, best known for its Shakespeare in the Pub (2016-2018) and Shakespeare in the Garden (2020-present) series, as part of which he has to date produced and directed The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing, Measure for Measure, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet.
Further directing credits include: Constellations (2013), Image of an Unknown Young Woman (2016), Skieken f’Tiġieġ (2022), sitt ġrajjiet u naqra għala spiċċajna (kif spiċċajna) (2022) and the promenade-audio project It Happened Here: Stella (2022).
As an actor, credits include Bariona (2010), The Pride (2015), Romeo and Juliet (2015), An Enemy of the People (2018), Art (2022) and Class (2022).
Writer & Producer
Malcolm Galea is a playwright, director and performer. His recent projects include writing The Trials of Magnus Coffinkey (Spazju Kreattiv, May 2023), directing Noël Coward’s Private Lives (Teatru Manoel, March 2023), writing and starring in Ċikku and the Chocolate Panto (Teatru Manoel, December 2022), directing Caravaggio the Musical (Mediterranean Conference Centre, September 2022), writing Il-Kbir Għadu Ġej (Mediterranean Conference Centre, July 2022), starring in his solo show 0.0031% at Brighton Fringe Festival (May, 2022) for which he won the Voice Mag award for Best Newcomer, and directing Yasmina Reza’s Art (Blue Box, February 2022).

Angele Galea has acted in various theatre productions including Edward Albee's Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Manoel, 2004), Alfred Buttigieg's Dwar Menopawsi, Minorenni u Muturi High Speed (St James Cavalier, 2012), Apotheosis (2019), penned, produced and acted in Waħda Minna (2019), played Stephanie in the two-hander L-Interrogazzjoni (Teatru Malta, 2020) and Bernice in Her Say (Spazju Kreattiv, 2022). She has also acted in several films including Largo Winch (Pan-Européenne, 2007), Agora (Cinébiss, 2008), Beat (Falkun Films, 2018), Lost Planet (Latina Pictures) and Project Icon (Pellicola).
Angele holds Fellowships in Piano Performance and Music Theory and was a presenter on TVM for Maltco Lotteries. Additionally she is artistic director for More or Less Theatre.
Angele is a registered teacher of Art, history and technique, Piano Performance and Music Theory. She has taken part in various collective exhibitions with her paintings, as well as solo exhibitions, the latest one being The Insanity of Vanity. She is current working on a community project in collaboration with Science in the City – Vuċijiet Beltin and in a research project in collaboration with Dr Tyrone Grima Strong Women in the Bible.
